Goal Statement
The West Virginia legislature established the Community Corrections Act in order to provide a sentencing alternative that seeks to respond to crime by requiring offender accountability. Clients maintain a reporting schedule so that they may be supervised within the community. This lessens the amount of tax dollars it costs to house non-violent offenders in jail, while encouraging them to be productive citizens. Community Corrections follows the theory that by addressing the underlying causes of criminal activity recidivism will be reduced, leading to long term change in the offender and cost savings to our counties.
