Welcome to the Upshur County Sheriff’s Tax Office. We are dedicated to serving our citizens, the commercial sector, the levying bodies and other various agencies and departments. In addition to being the Chief Law Enforcement Officer of the county, the Sheriff is also the Treasurer of the county. This site has been designed to help you understand West Virginia law concerning the duties of the Sheriff’s Tax Office. As Treasurer, our office is responsible for the billing and collecting of taxes, making our office one of the most interactive offices in the county. The tax office is mostly visited for the payment of taxes, however, in addition to the billing and collection of taxes, our office maintains lienholder statements, tracks property transfers, issues concealed weapon permits and motor vehicle license renewals, manages conservator and estate accounts, issues payments to jurors and witnesses. As the Treasurer’s Office we are also responsible for the investing, safeguarding and maintenance of all county bank accounts. The Sheriff, in the capacity as Treasurer, is also responsible for the collections of special fees imposed by the county, therefore, our office acts as the collector for the Upshur County Fire Fee. The Upshur County Fire Board has a Fire Fee Clerk located within our office for the purpose of Fire Fee collections and management.

We strive to provide a tax office that is responsive, efficient and cost effective for the residents of Upshur County. We recognize that you the taxpayers have very busy schedules, thus, this website allows the tax office to provide online information that is easily accessible and convenient; extending information and services available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
